Donald Lawrence Binder was born March 14, 1928 to Lawrence and Anna (Malcolm) Binder in Oak Hill, Kansas.   He moved to Iowa with his family in 1941 and started farming right out of high school with his father.  He met his future wife, Margaret Quirin at a dance and was married September 17, 1950.  He was in the army from November 1950-1952 and then moved to Albert City where he farmed for five years.

Don and Margaret moved to a farm north of Alta and lived there until 2000.  The couple was blessed with four children and he often joked that he had his own baseball team. When Don retired from farming they purchased a home in Alta.  Together they shared 66 years of marriage, attended many sporting events and many music concerts. Their door was always open for anyone to come and enjoy a hot meal, cinnamon roll or Pepsi.  He enjoyed his grandchildren and their friends stopping in and was a Grandpa to more than his own.

Don was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Alta, Kiwanis Club, Truesdale Coop Board, the Farm Bureau in Pocahontas as well as Buena Vista, Farmers Club, and was on numerous committee projects for the community of Alta.  He enjoyed woodworking, which he won several awards for at the Albert City Thresherman’s Show, snowmobiling, boating, skiing and doing any activity with his children and grandchildren.  He was also a fisherman who caught fish in many different states.

His memory is celebrated by those he leaves behind including his wife, Margaret; children, Duane (Deb) Binder of Terre Haute, IN, Dennis (Lisa) Binder of Alta, IA, Lori (Jim) Radke of Omaha, NE, Trudy (Myron) Hinkeldey of Alta, IA; grandchildren, Curtis, Jeffrey Binder, Brittany Binder, Dan (Heather) Binder, Barry (Renae) Binder, Tyler (Brianna) Radke, Nate (Kate) Hinkeldey, Tom (Stefany) Hinkeldey, Jordan (Jenna) Hinkeldey; great-grandchildren, Gus Binder, Nate Harmes, Olivia and Lennell Binder, Avery and Jack Hinkeldey, Elijah, Myah and Miles Hinkeldey, Lawson and Ryker Hinkeldey; sister-in-law, Charlotte Binder; brothers-in-law, Ray Taphorn and Ed (Charlene) Quirin.
