Warren Gerald Lasher

Warren G. Lasher, age 82, of Holstein, passed away on Tuesday, April 04, 2017 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center of Cherokee.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with the Rev. Doresa K. Collogan officiating.  Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein with military rites conducted by the American Legion Dessel-Schmidt Post #225 of Holstein.  A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 09, 2017 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. 

             Warren was born June 4, 1934 to Gerald and Irene (Bowles) Lasher in Lake City, Iowa.  He graduated from Lake City High School in 1952 then earned a full ride to Buena Vista College to play baseball.  He received his B.S. in education in 1956.  Warren was drafted into the United States Army and served until 1958.  Later he would go on to earn a Masters in Education from Wayne State College.

            On June 14, 1957 he was united in marriage to Mary Brown.  To this union two children were born.  Mary passed away in 2003.  On September 3, 2005 he was married to Gail Schmidt.

            Warren was a teacher and coach in the Holstein schools for several years until he became a principal.  He was principal in Holstein, in Brush, CO for two years, then came back to Sutherland, Iowa where he would retire.  He was in education for 38 years.  He coached many junior high sports but his true passion was coaching baseball and golf.

            Warren loved playing golf, playing cards at the Holstein Country Club and the Lohff-Schumann Recreation Center and hunting for deer, pheasants and ducks.  He also enjoyed reading and doing puzzle books, attending city council meetings and watching Buena Vista University baseball games. Warren was an excellent ping-pong player, no one could beat him! He was a good Samaritan, always willing to give someone in need a ride to the doctor or help in any way he could.

            He is survived by his wife Gail of Holstein, IA; daughter, Lori (Bernie) Rodarte of Ft. Morgan, CO; step-children, Carrie (Mark) Rosener of Rodney, IA, Allan (Liz) Schmidt of Holstein, IA; grandchildren, Bryce, Tania, Dillon and Andrew Rosener, Preston, Grant and Addison Schmidt; brother, Hudson (Angela) Lasher of Battle Ground, WA; sisters, Carole Lasher of San Diego, CA, Cathy (Bo O’Shea) Lasher of Bellevue, WA; brother-in-law, Fred (Kay) Brown of Fremont, NE as well as many nieces and nephews.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary Lasher and son, Ben Lasher.
