Marie K Woods

Marie K Woods, 94, of the Sioux City area and Rio Grande Valley, TX area, was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on February 11, 1929 and passed away February 10, 2024 at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, just shy of her 95th birthday.  Services will be held at a later date this summer.

Marie grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School.  She married James R Woods on December 31,1947. They had five children.

Marie lived in the Siouxland area for over 55 years before moving to Mission, Texas.  In Sioux City she worked as a veterinarian assistant, Zenith Corporation, AAA and owned a Dairy Queen in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. She kept the stats for many baseball games, where her husband Jim was the coach. She would sit behind the umpire and voice her opinion if she didn’t like the call.

Marie moved to Texas in 1983.  Marie was employed by the Mission Independent School District in the school cafeteria. In 2022 she moved back to Iowa and resided at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Holstein, Iowa, until her passing. She was a hit at the nursing home where again her wit and humor made them laugh.

Marie loved to play cards.  She was an avid bridge player and received many awards.  She loved her Bingo and going to the casino.  Marie was a devoted friend, mother, grandmother and Yaya to her great grandchildren.   Marie had the greatest laugh which made us all laugh.  She truly will be missed.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Linda (Leslie) Zahnow; son James R (Vicki) Woods, Jr.; son, Craig W (Debra) Woods; daughters-in-law, Pam Cisney (Paul) and Patty Woods (Rodney), and her brother-in-law, David Woods. Marie is also survived by nine grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews and 16 great nieces and great nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mabel Bitsos; her husband James R. Woods; her sons, Rodney and Clayton Woods; her in-laws, Walter and Ida Woods; her son-in-law David Lee; her brothers, Louie and Tony Bitsos; her sister Magdalene Staber (Ted);  and her sister-in-law Nancy Woods (David).
