Michael McMahon Obituary

Michael E. McMahon, age 73, of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at the Unity Point Health - St. Luke’s of Sioux City.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Cornerstone World Outreach of Sioux City.  Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Sioux City.  A visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at the Cornerstone World Outreach of Sioux City.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cornerstone Children's Playground.

Michael E. McMahon was born November 2, 1950 in Sioux City, Iowa to Vincent and Maxine McMahon.  He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Bishop Heelan High School.  Mike joined the U.S. Navy and was a Munitions Expert.

He was united in marriage to Sally Balt on January 2, 1988. They made their home in Sioux City and where they raised three children: Teri, Brian and Kevin. Mike worked for the Sioux City Police Department for 20 years. He was a member of Cornerstone World Outreach.

Mike was fascinated with guns, shooting, and military history.  He enjoyed doing yard work, especially mowing and scooping snow.  Mike was a storyteller, expert marksman and fencer, avid book reader, and history buff. He loved to see historical sites and museums on vacation with Sally. Mike had a willing heart to provide proper firearm safety for those that were inexperienced, and he could talk someone’s ear off with all of his stories, regardless of if you've heard them two or three times before.

He is survived by his wife, Sally of Sioux City, IA; daughter, Teri (Steve) Patnaud of Sioux City, IA; sons, Brian (Michaela) and Kevin both of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren, Alex Patnaud, Dylan (Rachel) Patnaud and Colin Patnaud; and Azariah, Ivy and Lila McMahon; brothers, Ray (Patty) McMahon, Vince (Karen) McMahon both of Sioux City, IA and one sister, Mary (Ron) Beauchene of Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law, Diane (Tom) Schemper, Nancy Klemme and Laura VanBeek and brother-in-law, Robert (Lynn) Balt.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Theresa (Dale) Hein; his parents-in-law; and a brother-in-law.
