John Ralph Todd

John R. Todd, age 67, of Washta, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019 at his home of Washta. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Washta United Methodist Church of Washta with Pastor Barb Dinelli officiating.  A visitation will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. Burial will be held at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein. 

John Ralph Todd was born September 20, 1951 in Cherokee, Iowa to Ralph and Delores (Kistenmacher) Todd.  John was baptized and confirmed at the Washta United Methodist Church.  He was a graduate of Willow High School in 1969. 

A lifetime resident of Washta, John was a farmer, truck driver, and dairy farmer.  He worked at Washta Cropmate for several years.  John retired in 2016 but continued to farm the family farm.  He was united in marriage to Carol Burns on March 14, 1975.  To this union four children were born.  He and Carol later parted ways.

John enjoyed watching John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies, hunting and golfing.  Christmas was his favorite holiday and he loved decorating for it.  At Thanksgiving the turkey and gravy were his specialty. 

He is survived by his mother, Delores Todd; children, William (Nichole) Todd of Quimby, IA, Crystal (Bryon) Anderson of Sioux City, IA, Lucas Todd of Sibley, IA and Cody Todd (friend, Jeana) of Ames, IA; seven grandchildren, Gabby, Beau, Sunny, Devin, JohnWayne, Lily and Ivy.  He is also survived by brothers, Charles (Sue) Todd of Washta, IA, Mike (Sharon) Todd of Cleghorn, IA, Mark (Becky) Todd of Washta, IA; sisters, Deb (Bob) Templeman of Mayer, MN, Barb (Doug) Radke of Aurelia, IA, Lisa (Trip) Witten of Ida Grove, IA; special friend, Nita Stieneke and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his father, Ralph; his grandparents; several aunts and uncles and an infant nephew.
