Norma Cronin Obituary

 Norma J. Cronin, age 90, of Holstein, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Holstein Senior Living Center of Holstein. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church of Holstein with the Fr. Mark Stoll officiating.  Burial will be held at the Calvary Cemetery of Holstein. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a scriptural prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Norma Jean Cronin was born on December 28, 1928 to Louis and Mary (Thiel) Means in Marcus, Iowa on the family farm.  She graduated from Holy Name High School in Marcus in 1947. 

She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Francis Cronin on November 22, 1949 at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa.  To this union seven children were born. They made their home in the Marcus, Meriden and Cleghorn area.  The family moved to Holstein in 1962 and Norma enjoyed being a homemaker until 1979 when she began working at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home as a Nursing Assistant and Physical Therapy Aide.  She retired in 1995. 

Norma was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church where she belonged to the Rosary Society and was a volunteer for the BeFriender Ministry.  She was a member of Lonestar Homemakers and the Good Samaritan Auxiliary.  Norma enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, dancing and doing puzzles.  She also liked traveling and going to the casino.

Norma is survived by two daughters, Linda (Ken) Niemeier of Holstein and Lisa (Ross) Rydberg of Overland Park, KS; three sons, Jerry (Pat) Cronin, Brian (Lisa) Cronin and Jeff (Brenda) Cronin, all of Holstein, IA; son-in-law, Bill Terry of Holstein, IA; 21 grandchildren, Kim (Kirk) Holst, Scott (Becky) Niemeier, Kristi (Matthew) Mentink, Chad (Billi) Niemeier, Michele (Mark) Koppedryer, Shannon (Steve) Smith, Steve Cronin, Kevin (Traci) Cronin, Lexa (Jake) Hawkins, Darci (Steve) Kuhns, Renee (Joe) Williams, Kari Cronin, Briana (Tate) Terry, Jacob (Kandie) Terry, Brandi Terry (friend, Tranez), Jenna Terry, Pam (Jarid) Currie, Andy (Kristina) Cronin, Joshua (Kenzie) Rydberg, Michael Rydberg (friend, Erin) and Patrick Rydberg (friend, Nat); 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Darlene Means; sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Means, Joan Cronin, Paula Cronin and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis in 2011; son, Doug; daughter, Julie Terry; grandson, Kevin Niemeier; great-grandson, Marshall Williams; an infant brother and sister; brothers, Clyde and Pete Means; sisters-in-law, Norma Means, Hazel Means, Mary Mai, Germaine Cronin, Merlyn Cronin, Marie Cronin; brothers-in-law, Lloyd, William, Joseph and Kenneth Cronin and Robert Mai.
