Roy “Gene” E. Janssen, age 86, of Moville, passed away on Monday, June 05, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church of Moville with the Rev. Janet Rieckhoff-Faris officiating.  Burial will be at the Arlington Cemetery of Moville with military rites conducted by the American Legion Wink – Sparks Post #303 of Moville.  A visitation will be held on Friday, June 09, 2017 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the church. 

Roy was born October 28, 1930 in Correctionville, Iowa to Roy and Garnet D. (Aldag) Janssen.  He served with the Hour Glass Unit in Korea from March 16, 1950 until his discharge on December 25, 1952.  He was married to Eunice (Fuson) Janssen on March 20, 1954, in Worthington, Minnesota.  Gene farmed from 1954 until 2016, when he was injured in a fall.  He was president of the Woodbury County National Farmers Organization for many years and was a member of the South Sioux City Eagles.

            Gene really enjoyed fishing, usually spending his vacations in South Dakota and on the English River in Ontario, Canada.  He also enjoyed deer hunting and playing cards.

            He is survived by his daughter, Marla Janssen of Sioux City, IA; son, Darloe and his wife Debra of Sioux City, IA; three grandchildren, Lauren, David and Megan Janssen of Sioux City, IA; brother, Richard Janssen of Kingsley, IA; and his special friend, Pat Schiltz of Remsen, IA.

            Gene was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eunice; sister and brother-in-law, Eunice and Don Carr; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Jerry Barthole; sister-in-law, Melva Janssen and niece, Janet Carr.

            We would like to express our appreciation to the staff of the Good Samaritan Society of LeMars.  The staff and administration took excellent care of Gene and made his final days peaceful.
