Truman "Bud" Lincoln Peterson

Truman “Bud” Peterson, age 93, of Galva, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Char – Mac Assisted Living of Holstein.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 02, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with the Rev. Doresa K. Collogan officiating.  Burial will be at the Galva Township East Cemetery of Galva with military rites conducted by the American Legion Dibbern Post #454 of Galva.  A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 01, 2017 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. 

         Truman L. “Bud” Peterson was born February 12, 1924 to Cora (Padget) and Truman N. Peterson in Galva, Iowa.  He attended Galva Consolidated School and graduated in 1941 with 12 years of perfect attendance.  After high school, he enrolled at Tri-State Business College in Sioux City.  Bud entered the service in March of 1943, joining the 32nd General Hospital in Brownwood, TX.  He established and operated hospitals in England, France, Belgium and Aachen, Germany.  He returned home in December of 1945.

    In February of 1946, Bud started his 34-year career in banking in Galva.  The last 9 years were as president, before retirement in February of 1980.

    Bud married Lovice Babcock in June of 1948.  To this union two children were born, Trudy and Alan.  Over the years they attended the annual reunion of Bud’s army outfit in various parts of the United States.  Lovice passed away on December 24, 1990 after over 42 years together.  

    On September 24, 1992, Bud married LaVaughn Frank.  They were together until November 7, 2011 when she passed away.  

    Bud is survived by his children, Trudy and her husband, Herschel Koberlein of Georgetown, TX and Alan Peterson and his wife Marsha of Washington, IA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by LaVaughn’s three sons, Mike, Steve and Collin and their families and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lovice and his second wife, LaVaughn.
