Darrell R. Godfrey

Darrell R. Godfrey, age 77, of Holstein, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service starting at 9:30 A.M. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. Burial will be at the Sunset View Cemetery of Washta.

Darrell was born June 9, 1948 to Ralph and Beverly Godfrey and lived at Dwelling Number 9, 2 Mile Road Going E, Grand Meadow, Cherokee, Iowa. Darrell grew up on the family farm near Holstein and Washta. In his younger years he had a fondness for Tri-5 Chevy Cars.

He was a lifetime resident of Holstein marrying Vicki Young on July 8, 1978. Darrell retired from Gomaco in Ida Grove, Iowa after 30 plus years.

Darrell loved fishing, camping, and exploring. He served in the military during the Vietnam Conflict and was actively involved in his community belonging to the American Legion Dessel-Schmitt Post #225 of Holstein and calling Bingo for over 30 years. His passion was doing things for others that brought smiles.

Darrell was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

He is survived by his brother, Loren and Vineta; his sister, Darlys and husband Don Winebrinner; three nephews, Adam and Casey Godfrey and Eric Winebrinner and one niece, Jill Tuttle and their families.
