David "Dave" W. Bennar, age 86, of Moville, passed away on October 21, 2025 at his residence. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Moville with the Pastor Edgar Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be at the Cushing Cemetery of Cushing. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Moville.
David Wesley Bennar was born July 2, 1939, to Alvin and Vivian (Vaughn) Bennar in Verdigre, NE. Dave worked throughout high school at the Woolworth Dime Store selling popcorn and then as a manager at Tastee In and Out. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1959. After graduation in 1959, he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed on a guided missile cruiser, patrolling off the coast of Vietnam.
Dave was united in marriage to Karen Hannel and they were blessed with three children. They made their home on a farm outside of Moville, Iowa in 1966 where they worked as farmers. Prior to farming, Dave worked at Wonder Bread and the Sioux City Stockyards.
Dave was a member and elder of the New Hope Church of Moville, which was an important part of his life. Dave loved farming, but in his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
David was preceded in death by his parents Alvin Bennar and Vivian Fjeldos; daughter, Patricia Bennar; grandson, Joshua Bennar; brothers, Lee Wendte and Alvin Bennar and sister, Shannon Ryder.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Karen; children, James (Melissa) Bennar, Susan (Tim) Kinman and daughter-in-law, Erinn Bennar; grandchildren, Tyler and Danielle Bennar, Britany and Joey Zwiener, Hali (Mauricio) Queen, Cody (Amanda) Gilbertson, Michael Frigge and Wesley Gilbertson and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Darla (Jim) Rock and LaDonna (Doug) Taylor; brothers, Mike (Colleen) Vaughn, and sister-in-law, Kathy Wendte, brother-in-law, Joe Hannel.
