Dennis Grothaus

Dennis R. Grothaus, age 75, of Holstein, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein. A committal service will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein.

Dennis Roy Grothaus was born September 21, 1949, in Cherokee, lowa to the late Mable and Harvey (Flip) Grothaus. As the only child born from that marriage, he lived with his mother until she passed away.

He attended Holstein Schools and graduated in 1967. He subsequently enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam Conflict from January 14, 1969, to December 5, 1972. Denny received his Honorable Discharge, but he never liked discussing the war or his involvement in it.

After he came home from the Navy, he worked for Ida County until his retirement.

Dennis fell at his home in 2022, breaking his foot, and after that, he never returned home.
He loved the people and the care he received at the Good Samaritan Center and decided to make it his home. Denny was a man of few words, and he told you how he felt, whether you liked it or not.

He led a solitary life, unnoticed by most, but he had a kind heart. He hated movies, microwaves, large groups of people and phone calls that interrupted his naps.
