Donald “Don” D. Joy Sr.

Donald “Don” D. Joy Sr., age 93, of Cushing, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at the Correctionville Specialty Care of Correctionville. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025 from 2:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville.

Donald D. Joy, Sr. was born July 30, 1932 to Lee and Anna (Sachau) Joy at home in Danbury, Iowa. He grew up in

Correctionville and attended country school then later attended Correctionville High School.

Don was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mamie Martens on February 27, 1951 in Moville, Iowa. They made their home in Cushing where Don spent the rest of his life. Don and Mamie were blessed with six children, Linda, Donald Jr, Thomas, Ronald, James and Dennis. They celebrated 74 years together.

Don started his working career driving a semi-truck, then started his own business in 1959. He managed the Cushing Elevator from 1971-1975. In 1982 he started Joy Dirt Construction.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Anna (Sachau) Joy; daughter, Linda; daughter-in-law, Kathy Joy; great-granddaughter, Morrgan Reusch; sister, Leatrice and brother, Larry.

Don is survived by his wife, Mamie of Cushing, IA; children, Donald Jr. (Evelyn) of Cushing, IA, Thomas (Denise) of Cushing, IA, Ronald (JoAnna) of Kilgore, TX, James of Lovell, WY and Dennis of Powell, WY; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
