Dorothy Louise Ashmore

Dorothy L. Ashmore, age 94, of Correctionville, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at the Correctionville Specialty Care Center of Correctionville.  A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville. Burial will be at Rock Branch Cemetery of Correctionville.

 Dorothy Louise Ashmore was born January 6, 1932 in Correctionville, Iowa to Albert and Edna (Fixsel) Brune. She attended Correctionville High School.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Dean Ashmore on July 30,1949 in South Sioux City, NE. They made their home in Correctionville, where they raised three daughters: Edna, Becky and Peggy. Dorothy lived her entire life in Correctionville, spending the last nine years at the Correctionville Specialty Care Center.

Dorothy was a proud homemaker. She belonged to numerous ladies and card clubs. Dorothy volunteered at senior meals and at the Correctionville nursing home where she was honored for her volunteer work throughout the years. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church where she served as the Sunday School Superintendent for many years and was a member of the Methodist Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed birdwatching, reading her Bible daily, working puzzle books, crocheting, playing cards and making sequin calendars and banners. She loved visits from her family, playing Bingo and Dominoes. Dorothy enjoyed watching football and basketball games, always cheering for the Green Bay Packers and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; granddaughter, Kara Sevening and grandson, Nathan Hullinger.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Edna Louise (Phillip) Sevening of Correctionville, IA, Becky (Robert) Hullinger of Correctionville, IA and Peggy (John) McAllister of Oyens, IA; grandchildren, Kimberly (Dean) Norris of Correctionville, IA, Robert (Ryan Hall) Sevening of Tyler, TX, Nicole (Chris) Gotto of Correctionville, IA, Zach Hullinger (fiancee, Cheyenne Wilcke) of Omaha, NE, Zane Hullinger of Correctionville, IA and Katie McAllister (special friend, Evan Eckman) of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren, Trevor (fiancee Jessalyn Phelps) of Pensacola, FL, Carter (special friend, Victoria Stutzke) of Sioux Falls, SD, Nathan Gotto (special friend, Kaelie Derby) of Correctionville, IA, Kiera, Karissa and Cyler Gotto of Correctionville, IA.
