Florence Maxine (Bumann) Miesner

Florence M. Miesner, age 90, of Holstein, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the Willow Dale Wellness Village of Battle Creek.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein with the Pastor Duane Miesner officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein.

Florence Maxine Miesner was born January 26, 1933 at her family farm in Cherokee County to Peter Max and Dora (Kleve) Bumann.  She started high school at Quimby High School and then graduated from Holstein High School.

She was united in marriage to Ervin Arthur Miesner on February 17, 1951.  To this union four children were born and they raised their family in Holstein.  She took great pride in her title of homemaker and was even highlighted in the Holstein Advance as a “Homemaker of the Week.”

Florence enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening and canning her produce. She also loved dancing, playing cards and especially spending time with her grandchildren.  In her younger years she loved horses and has been a lifelong dog lover.  Florence had a great sense of humor and she didn’t mind a prank or two. She was always willing to help others and could always be found with a big smile.   Florence was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA.  She also participated in several neighborhood clubs.

She is survived by her children, Jim (Nancy) Miesner of Holstein, IA, Larry Miesner (Vicky Hahne) of Coon Rapids, IA, Lonny (Darla) Miesner of Star, ID and Janet (Bob) Pauli of Littleton, CO; grandchildren, Jessica McGinnis, Christina Oswald, Chase Clausen, Keegan Miesner and Joseph Anderson; great-grandchildren, Isabella McGinnis, Ella McGinnis, Kaelen Oswald and Grayson Oswald.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Dora Bumann; husband, Ervin Miesner; granddaughter, Kelsey Miesner; brothers, Verdean Bumann and Norbert Bumann; sisters, Wilma Andrews, Deta Gebers, Elsie Hansen and Olga Joslin and nieces and nephews, Cindy, Rodney, Sharon and Dale Joslin.

The family would like to thank the staff of Willow Dale Wellness Village and Gentiva Hospice for the excellent care that they gave to Florence.
