Harold, the son of Sam and Ella (Else) Dutler, was born on January 21, 1919 in Ida Grove, Iowa. His family purchased a farm near Holstein where he continued to farm until retirement. On September 19, 1948, he married Elsie (Mordhorst) and raised five children.
Harold enjoyed his time on the church council at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein, the extension council, the Horn Memorial Hospital Board, and time spent as a 4-H leader and volunteer. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing cards, a little gambling, and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Dutler.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie; five children: two daughters, Beverley and Keith Fick of Oskaloosa, IA and Karen Dutler of Lawton, IA; three sons, Jim and Roxy Dutler of Galva, IA, Gene and Nadine Dutler of Ida Grove, IA, and Mark Dutler of Holstein, IA; seven grandchildren, Kristi (Fick) and Mike Resczenko, Deanne (Fick) and Doug Busta, Kevin and Amanda (Vawter) Fick, Stephenie (Dutler) and Nick Engle, Chad and Keely (Bowman) Dutler, Eric and Stephanie (Scott) Dutler, and Joshua Dutler; and twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delores (Dutler) Parker of Holstein, IA and Garnet (Dutler) Henrichsen of Santa Barbara, CA; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy (Wiese) Dutler of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Harold will always be remembered for his kind smile, subtle sense of humor and patient friendliness that was given to everyone he met. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein.
