June was born June 1, 1925 near Moorhead, Iowa. She was the daughter of Clarence (Jerry) and Alice (Dunlop) Cole. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith and graduated from Holstein High School in 1943. She worked in Ada Morgan's Variety Store, Jesse Leonard's Law Firm and the local Council Oak store before attending Buena Vista College. She taught school three years: at Battle #1 in Battle Township, at Silver #9 in Cherokee Township and first grade in the Holstein public school system.
June married Harold Bremer on February 14, 1946 in the Methodist parsonage in Holstein. With the exception of two years, she lived the rest of her life on the Bremer family farm. June and Harold were the parents of two sons: Cole and Clint. In 1970, June did the enumerating of the tax census of Douglas and Griggs Townships. After that experience she went on to become an Avon representative for three years, then the Methodist church secretary for eight. Later she worked as secretarial assistant at the Good Samaritan Center from 1982-1983.
In 1977, June was elected president of the Ninth District of the American Legion Auxiliary. The following year she served as historian of the Department of Iowa. In 1980, she became president of the United Methodist Women in Holstein, serving for four years. June went on to become District Supportive Community Chairman of the United Methodist Women. Throughout her active years she was involved in the local American Legion Auxiliary, serving as president , treasurer and county president. In 1984, she organized the United Methodist Hugger Clowns, which lasted for 25 years. At one time she was honored to be selected Good Neighbor by the Holstein Community Club. June taught Sunday school, led numerous study groups, was a member of Mary Circle and historian of the United Methodist Women for 25 years.
June and Harold enjoyed many years traveling, especially with their sons, granddaughters and friends. June enjoyed gardening, reading and viewing old classics from her VCR-DVD library.
June wrote her obituary many years ago, but her family knows she was so much more than the accomplishments she wrote about. She was the one who woke every morning and sat at her kitchen table and prayed through her prayer list, retyping it for any life or health changes. You couldn’t meet a classier lady, but she was the one that would holler at the top of her lungs, “Good morning, God!” out her front door as she hung her American flag outside every morning, forever loyal to both God and country. Always the teacher, she taught each and every one of her descendants something tailored just for them whether it was how to make flapjacks, the art of playing chess, a great joke, or to trust in God and His timing. She was a piece of living history and could regale us with tales of a past that we couldn’t even fathom. June loved the Lord and could recite numerous Bible verses that she had hidden in her heart throughout her 100 years all the way up until the final weeks of her life. She was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman, full of beauty, grace and the spirit of God.
Survivors include a son, Cole, of Holstein; daughter-in-law, Jolene, of Galva; and granddaughters, Nicole Ekstrand; Zanniell (Brad) Zevenbergen; Jessica (Joseph) Keough; and Jennifer (Skyler) Leonard.
