LaDonna L. Peters, age 90, of Sioux City, formerly a longtime resident of Moville, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at the Whispering Creek Senior Living of Sioux City. A funeral will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 10:30 A.M. at the Moville United Methodist Church of Moville, with a visitation one hour prior to the service starting at 9:30 A.M. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Moville.
LaDonna Lee Peters was born February 21, 1936 in Smithland, Iowa to Homer and Ethel (Carson) Johnson.
She was united in marriage to Gerald “Gary” Peters on June 28, 1959. They made their home in Moville and were blessed with three children, Jeff, Randy and Heather. LaDonna spent nearly her entire life in Moville, where she was a familiar and beloved member of the community until moving to Whispering Creek in Sioux City in August of 2017.
She began her career with Iowa Public Service, where she worked from 1955 to 1973. She later served as secretary for the Moville United Methodist Church for a short time before joining the Woodbury Central Community Schools, where she worked from 1976 until her retirement in 1999.
Faith was the foundation of LaDonna's life. She was a devoted, longtime member of the Moville United Methodist Church, serving in countless capacities throughout the years, including Sunday School teacher, committee member, Leadership Council member, and many other ministries. Later, she became a member of Central Baptist Church in Sioux City and faithfully served as a group leader for Bible Study Fellowship for many years, encouraging others through her love of Scripture and compassionate spirit.
LaDonna enjoyed following all sports, traveling with family and friends, golfing, and making treasured memories with loved ones at the lakes. More than anything, she cherished her family. She adored her husband Gary, deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and treasured the close relationships she shared with her siblings. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel loved and cared for, and her kindness touched countless lives.
LaDonna was preceded in death by her husband, Gary on September 2, 1992; her parents, Homer and Ethel; her parents-in-law, Buster and Julia Peters; sisters, Shirley Jean, Evie Stubbs and Dee Ashley and brothers-in-law, Gary Lillie, Steve Stubbs, Roger Schnaible and Allen Jones.
She is survived by sons, Jeff (Teresa) of Le Mars, IA and Randy (Steve Lundberg)of Sioux City, IA; daughter, Heather (Brian) Crichton of Sioux City, IA; six grandchildren, Nathan (Krista) Peters of LeMars, IA, Stefanie (Luke) Cargin of LeMars, IA, Maddie (Jameson) Mandl of Lincoln, NE, Sarah (Mason) Porepp of Sioux Falls, SD, Hannah (special friend, Greg Clark) of Sioux City, IA and Allie Crichton of Sioux City, IA; seven great-grandchildren, Drake and Amara Peters, Emily, Isaac, Abigail and Olivia Cargin and baby Declan Mandl. She is also survived by sisters, Joy Lillie and Janice Schnaible; brother-in-law, Art Ashley, all of Sioux City, IA; sisters in-law, Connie (Lee) Kent and Dixie Jones of Surprise, AZ.
