Robert G. Brauninger, age 99, of Correctionville made his final round surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at his home in Correctionville. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville with the Lay Pastor Pam Briese officiating. Burial will be at the Correctionville Cemetery with military rites conducted by the VFW Sioux Valley Post #1750 and the American Legion Mumford-Moon Post #79 of Correctionville. Robert “Bob” Brauninger was born on the south farm in Correctionville, Iowa on May 4, 1927, the son of Ernest and Hazel (Zahnley) Brauninger. At the age of five he attended Kedron #1 Country School in Correctionville for eight years, where he met his best friend on the schoolyard, forever friend and neighbor for life, Lloyd. He went on to graduate from Correctionville High School with the “Class of ’45” then was drafted into the Army, Bob served until September 1948, doing his basic training in Kansas and later serving in Germany. While home on leave he met the love of his life, Phyllis Hull, who later joined him in Munich, Germany where they were married on July 6, 1954.
During their 64 years together they toured Europe, spent winters in Florida, went on fishing trips to Canada and were members of the Little Sioux Motorcycle Club. They also owned and operated RB Trucking and Bob was a Moews seed corn dealer, all while farming many acres, raising cattle and their family together. Rick came in ’62 and Heidi in ’65 and they lived and worked together on the family farm until Phyllis’s passing in 2018.
Bob was an avid and dedicated farmer who began farming with his father, Ernest and brother Lewis then later his son, Rick. He continued farming until his health declined at the age of 95, but his spirit and interest for farming remained. To know Bob was to love him. He was full of endless stories which he shared with everyone and anyone who took the time to listen. He was “Papa” to his grandchildren Kelsi and Ely and was extremely proud of their life achievements. They were his pride and joy! He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Bayleigh Sue and Barrett Robert, his namesake, who turned one the day after Bob turned 99.
In Bob’s final months, he welcomed Visiting Angels along with supportive care by his daughter, Heidi and neighbor, Nancy, with whom he was embraced with compassion and love. He will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know him as someone who lived his life with dignity and quiet courage. Bob lived a life defined by dedication to his farm-work, deep family ties and an appreciation for technology. Even at the age of 99 he could use his iPad and check the daily stock market and Facebook. Bob’s legacy is one of resilience and heartfelt simplicity; qualities that will continue to inspire those who remember him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis; his parents; and his siblings, Lewis, Geneva, Donald and Ellen.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Heidi; son, Rick; granddaughter, Kelsi (Dylan) Dalton; grandson, Ely (Courtney) Woten; great-grandchildren, Bayleigh Sue and Barrett Robert Woten; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
