Rosie M. Hamlin, age 90, of Holstein, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with the Pastor Kristin D. Boysen officiating. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Rosella May “Rosie” Hamlin, the daughter of Archie and Hattie (Willemsen) Koster was born on July 24, 1935 in Sheldon, Iowa. She married the love of her life, Rich Hamlin on January 7, 1961.
On Monday, February 23, 2026, Rosie passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein. Rosie grew up in the Orange City and Sheldon area. After her marriage to Rich in 1961, they traveled around the United States while Rich built elevators and feed mills. When Rich built the elevator in Holstein in 1966, they fell in love with the town and decided to buy a house and raise their family there.
Rosie was mainly a housewife, but did various jobs throughout the years such as working at the Western Corner, the Food Locker and at Casey’s making pizza. Rosie and Rich started raising and showing Quarter Horses, which she loved. She was the behind the scenes groomer and helper. The horses brought her to their annual trip to the Quarter Horse World Show, which she loved attending with her family and friends. Rosie’s grandchildren’s events were a priority to her and she was always one of the first there, never wanting to be late and to get a prime seat. She also enjoyed going to casinos with her friends. Her Wednesdays usually included a trip to Winnavegas and out for lunch. In her later years, she loved traveling on trips through her bank and going to Kentucky to visit her family. Her love for watching sports kept her occupied, especially watching anything the Iowa Hawkeyes were competing in.
Rosie lived her last few years at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein where she grew to love living and touched the hearts of many caretakers and staff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rich; her parents; brothers, Vincent Koster and Art Koster; and brother-in-law, Doug Hamlin.
Rosie is survived by her children, Tammy; Tim (Nancy) of Winchester, KY and Candi (Scott) of Holstein; five grandchildren, Austin (Sydney) Graff, Maddie Hamlin, Jackson Graff, Tristan Hamlin and Bailey Graff and sister-in-law, Carol (Roger) Armstrong. The family would like to extend a special thank you for the extraordinary care Rosie received while residing at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein.
