Terry âTâ Gross, age 67, of Holstein, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with Pastor Tyler Parson officiating. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019 from 5:00-8:00PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.
Terry âTâ Gross was born September 10, 1951 in Harlan, Iowa to Eugene and Betty (Mengwasser) Gross. He lived in the Ricketts area until his family moved to Holstein Iowa. He graduated from Holstein High School in 1970. After graduating he worked at Clausen Bros. Farms, Jochims Construction, Co-Op Inc. (Holstein Co-Op Elevator) then at VT Industries. In August of 1984, Terryâs career began at Gomaco Industries in Ida Grove. He worked as a head painter for 28 years and as a fabricator for five years. Terry received the H.W. Godbersen Award in 1998, an award voted on by fellow employees. He retired after 33 years in August of 2017.
On June 9, 1972, he married Mary Kay. They were blessed with one son, Jason.
Terry belonged to a â500â card club with the Platts, McKenzies and Deans. He loved spending time with his grandchildren; he enjoyed watching movies with Nick, rocking with Drew and watching Josh and Logan play baseball. He enjoyed having a beer with JA-Son and packing a cooler and Sunday riding with Mary. Terry was a NASCAR fan but cussed when Kyle Busch won. He liked having a whiskey on âthe beachâ which really was their back patio and he got to enjoy watching Mary in her âdream kitchen,â and you could often find Terry puttering in his shed and around the yard and being Maryâs house husband.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary of Holstein, IA; son, Jason and wife Deb Gross of Holstein, IA; grandchildren, Nicholas, Joshua, Andrew and Logan of Holstein; father, Gene Gross of Battle Creek, IA; brother, Mike Gross and friend Melissa Lantz of Ida Grove, IA; parents-in-law, Joyce and Herb Kay of Holstein, IA; sisters-in-law, Kathy Wittrock and friend Bill Ferris of Cherokee, IA and Susan and husband Merlin Jensen of Ottertail, MN; brothers-in-law, Curt and wife Lana Kay of Holstein, IA and Jeff and wife Therese Kay of Holstein, IA; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Gross; brother James and his wife Lori Gross; nephew, Tyler Gross; maternal grandparents John and Marcela Mengwasser; paternal grandparents Joseph and Josephine Gross; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
