Vandett "Tim" Grieme, 76, originally of Galva, Iowa, passed away on the morning of Saturday, September 12, 2026. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 on Saturday, October 10th at St. John's Lutheran Church in Galva, IA with a luncheon to follow.
Tim was born on January 2, 1950, to Geraldine and Werner "Van" Grieme. Even with illness that took his leg when he was seven, he had an active childhood on the farm with his three older sisters and younger brother.
On September 28, 1975, he married the love of his life, Marlys Jo Rath, in Storm Lake. Together, they built their family in Galva, raising four children. They shared almost 38 wonderful years together until her passing in June 2013.
Tim loved being a father and grandfather, and was a constant, supportive presence in his kids' and grandkids' lives while he was able. Tim made friends wherever he went, and many would say that he never met anyone he considered a stranger. He was happiest when he was around others or lending a helping hand. A man of remarkable strength and optimism, Tim maintained a profoundly positive outlook despite his own physical hardships through his life and was an inspiration to those who knew him. He was also active in the AA community for 51 years, where he continually used his own experience, strength, and hope to lift up and support others.
He is survived by his loving children and grandchildren: Dezarae (Chad) Penning of Spencer, and their children: Seanicee (and her daughter, Arylla), Chance, and Danica; Caleb (Cierra) Grieme of Rancho Cordova, California, and their children: Emmitt, Sawyer, Branson, Lucy, and Noah; Aisha (John) Steege of Ankeny, and their children: Isaac, Sarina, and Paxton; Ben (Emmy) Grieme of Des Moines. He is also survived by his sisters, Sally Kolb and Milly Ford, and brother, Wes Grieme.
Tim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marlie; his parents, Geraldine and Van; and his sister, Gayle Thompson.
