Violet was born Dec. 28, 1922, in Cherokee, IA. to Elmer and Christine (Nielsen) Jacobson. She was raised in Larrabee, IA and graduated from Larrabee High School. She then earned her teaching degree from Westmar College in LeMars, IA. She taught Country School around Cherokee county for 2 years. She married Hugo K. Meyer on June 23, 1952. They made their home on a farm west of Holstein, IA., where she assisted Hugo with many farming duties. She had a love of all animals. Even when she was unable to get outside, many baby animals came inside to visit her. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing card games with family and friends and caring for her grandchildren. She was a long time member of St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing, IA. She was active in the women’s circle and Bible study. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugo; siblings, Mildred, Earl, Norman, and Dale; sons, Larson and Allen Meyer; and son-in-law Bill Huelsdonk. Survivors include daughters, Audrey Huelsdonk of Lincoln, NE, JoAnn (Alvin) Bauer of Argenta, IL; sons, Boyd (Lenore) Meyer of Holstein, IA and Larry (Argene) Meyer of Correctionville, IA; her brother, Harold Jacobson of Lincoln, NE; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. She cherished and appreciated her family, friends, and neighbors.
