Dale Meyer Obituary

Dale H. Meyer, age 91, of Holstein, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the AbiliT Holstein Senior Living Center of Holstein.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein with the Pastor Bob Lewis officiating.  Burial will be held at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein with military rites conducted by the American Legion Dessel-Schmidt Post #225 of Holstein.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.

Dale Henry Meyer was born February 9, 1930 on the family farm in Holstein, Iowa to Louis and Marie (Ehlert) Meyer.  He graduated from Holstein High School in 1948. He joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954.

Dale was united in marriage to Dolores Michaelson on October 29, 1950. To this union four children were born, Kurt, Terri, Steve and Tim. They raised their family on their farm northwest of Holstein.

After high school Dale began farming with his father, and with the exception of the two years he spent at war, he farmed until his retirement.  In addition to farming, Dale was a Pioneer Seed Corn dealer from 1980 to 2001.   Dale was a lifelong member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He was also on the Ida County Cattlemen’s Board, REC Board and the NIPCO Regional Board.  Dale was a proud member of the American Legion Dessel-Schmidt Post #225, serving as Sgt. of Arms for several years.

Dale enjoyed following his children and grandchildren’s events, going to cattle sales, polka music and listening to books on tape when he could no longer see well enough to read.  He lost his eyesight due to glaucoma in his later years but handled it with grace, often recognizing others by their voice.  He looked forward to Thursday morning coffee at the Legion with a host of friends, catching up on the latest local news.

Dale is survived by his wife, Dolores; children, Kurt (Cheryl) Meyer of Holstein, IA, Terri (Leo) Schimmer of Holstein, IA, Steve (Jackie) Meyer of Holstein, IA and Tim (Sandy) Meyer of Harlan, IA; grandchildren, Kelli Meyer, Kyle (Dana) Meyer, Matt (Amanda) Nobles, Grant Nobles, Meagan (Chad) Foresman, Lauren Meyer, Marc (Rachel) Meyer, Beth Meyer, Morgan Meyer and Jilian Meyer; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Dane, Gage, Luke, Adalyn and Olivia; six step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lorraine Moser; great-granddaughter, Grace Foresman; and many other family and good friends.
