Dennis E. Still, age 71, of Cushing, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Unity Point Health – St. Lukes of Sioux City.  A funeral service will be on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church of Correctionville with Pastor Carl Benge officiating the service.  Burial will be held at the Cushing Cemetery of Cushing.  A visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service followed by memory sharing at 7:00 p.m. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville.  The family recommends all individuals attending the services to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines.

Dennis Still was born in Ida Grove, IA on February 23, 1949 to Everett and Doris (Heilman) Still.  He was a graduate of Eastwood High School, then earned a degree in Animal Science from Western Iowa Tech.

Dennis was united in marriage to Jeanette Lee Wilson on April 18, 1970 in Kingsley, Iowa.  To this union three children were born.

He spent his entire life in Cushing and loved every day of it.  The Still Family has raised sheep on the same family farm since Dennis was a child, and Dennis was an integral part of the farming operation for the last 45 years. In addition to farming, he worked part time at Anfinson’s, Mathers Construction and Goodburn Construction. Dennis was truly passionate about the animals, however the relationships formed with customers were what meant the most to him. Each person who came to the farm was met with a smile and a handshake no matter what he had going on. They would then commence to talking about everything from farming to weather, hunting or politics, about which Dennis always had a very strong opinion!

It has been said that we should not use our kids to raise our livestock, but rather use our livestock to raise our kids. Dennis was a perfect example of this in raising his three children Jason, Jody, and Justin. It is safe to say his passion for livestock, hard work ethic, and stubbornness were passed along! Although he loved his children, the pride Dennis took in watching his grandchildren grow was apparent to everyone. He loved to play with them, watch them show sheep, and compete in their various athletic events.  In his eyes, Halle, Alec, Colton, McKenna, Raelynn, and Elias were his greatest accomplishments.

Dennis was a lifelong member of the First Methodist Church in Cushing.  He enjoyed hunting, 4-H, slow pitch softball (for which he was known to hit homeruns) and he loved watching Westerns.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannette, of Cushing, IA; children, Jason (Christina) Still of Moville, IA, Jody (Dusty) Herbold of Kingsley, IA and Justin (Abby) Still of Cushing, IA; grandchildren, Halle, Alec, Colton, McKenna, Raelynn and Elias; three sisters, Shelly (Brian) Malcom of Ida Grove, IA, Sharon Hart of Fort Dodge, IA, and Shirley (Allen) Todd of Cushing, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Doris Still; parents-in-law, Arlene and Paul Wilson; sister and brother-in-law, Paulene and Larry Mesenbrink.4
