Esther Evelyn Elaine (Scherner) Endrulat

Esther Endrulat, age 89, of Holstein, passed away on Monday, April 06, 2020 at the AbiliT Senior Living of Holstein. A private family funeral service will be held at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein with the Pastor Bob Lewis officiating.  Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein.  A public visitation will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. 

Esther Evelyn Elaine (Sherner) Endrulat was born August 1, 1930 to John and Leona (Jetter) Scherner in Battle Township of Ida County, Iowa. She was a graduate of Holstein High School in 1948. After high school she worked for New York Life Insurance Company in Omaha then returned back to Holstein for marriage and to start a family. Esther was united in marriage to Harry Carl Endrulat on February 11, 1951 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein. To this union five children were born. Esther enjoyed raising her children, and then began a 30-year career at the Good Samaritan Society as the Housekeeping Supervisor. Esther was a member of the American Legion Auxilary Dessel-Schmidt Post #225 and Damenverein. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA. Esther enjoyed reading, walking, cooking, playing cards and gardening. In their younger years, she and Harry enjoyed dancing. Esther was an excellent baker, especially baking a crazy good strawberry rhubarb pie. She loved having her house full of family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those visits were her happiest times. Esther is survived by her children, Harry and Angie Endrulat of Lincoln, NE, Susan Endrulat of Holstein, IA, Ray and Gala Endrulat of Ida Grove, IA, Becky Endrulat of Tucson, AZ and Tim and Crystal Endrulat of Battle Creek, IA; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Louise Dobson of Holstein, IA and Shirley Persinger of Onawa, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry in 2016; sister, Alma Hase; and brothers, Arnold, Harry and John.
