Karen Sue (Wermes) Ludvigson

Funeral services for Karen S. Ludvigson, age 70, of Sioux City, are pending at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. 

Karen passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023 at her home of Sioux City.

Karen S. Ludvigson was born October 2, 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa to Robert “Bob” and Violet (Johnson) Wermes. She graduated from Leeds High School in Sioux City.

Karen worked for 12 years at Prudential Insurance before meeting and later marrying her husband, Ron Ludvigson on May 22, 1982 in Sioux City, Iowa. To this union one daughter Morgan was born and they made their home in Holstein. Karen spent 20 years assisting with the farm in countless ways up until Ron’s passing in 1999, then continued her work in insurance with American Family for 22 more years. She moved to Sioux City in 2005.

Aligned with her love for animals big and small, she volunteered extensively at the Sioux City Animal Shelter. She also enjoyed going to concerts and shows with friends. Professionally, Karen was very passionate and committed in supporting customers through her work in insurance, which earned her top recognition in the region.

She is survived by her daughter, Morgan Atchison and husband Chris and her grandson, Ronan, all of Minneapolis, MN; sister, Kathy (Wermes) Weiner; brother-in-law, Jerry Weiner of Toronto, Canada, and many extended relatives and cousins in the Siouxland area. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ron.

As a supporter of adoption and helping animals find a home, in lieu of flowers or gifts, the family is asking that donations be made in Karen’s memory to the Sioux City Animal Adoption and Rescue Center. Their 501c3, FOTAS (Friends of the Animal Shelter), graciously accepts donations to offset the cost of food, bedding and especially veterinarian care.
