Kenneth Buell Obituary

Kenneth H. Buell, age 75, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, in St. Paul, Minn., after a courageous battle with cancer. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein with Pastor Jason P. Larson officiating.  A visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein.  A meal will be served at the Holstein Country Club following the commital service.

Ken was born July 19th, 1946 to Harry and Wilma Buell.  He was baptized at the Holstein Methodist Church.  He graduated from Holstein High School where he excelled at football and basketball. After high school, he attended the University of South Dakota at Vermillion, graduating with a degree in Business Administration.  His first job after college was with Proctor and Gamble.  From there, he worked in the Personnel Department at the University of Minnesota, which eventually led to being named Athletic Ticket Manager at Minnesota, a position he held for over 30 years.  While in that position, he was in charge of several major events, including the NCAA Final Four in both hockey and basketball.  

Ken enjoyed bowling and once bowled a perfect game in league bowling at Ida Grove.  He also enjoyed golf, softball, and racquetball. 

He served on the Holstein City Council and was instrumental in the construction and operation of the Rosemary Clausen Center for the Performing Arts in Holstein.  

Ken also loved riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle on many cross-country trips.  

Ken met Pat Tapp in 1988 and they shared 33 years of life experiences together. They were married on February 21, 2021.  

Ken is survived by his wife, Pat. He was father to John (Sandi) Tapp and Joseph (Sarah) Tapp, grandfather to Becca, Kenny (his namesake), Kassi, and Lexxi, and great-grandfather to Christopher.  He was Bonus Dad to Leann Stulc and Allison Buell-Steyskal (Garrett, Shelby, Em).  He is also survived by a brother Andy (Leanne) of Silver Bay, Minnesota, sister-in-law Terry Lockie-Buell of Homer, Nebraska, a special cousin, Candi Haas of Huron, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Willis, and a sister Elaine.
