LaVonne Hoops Obituary

LaVonne E. Hoops, age 94, of Galva, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2020 at the AbiliT Senior Living of Holstein.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Galva with Rev. Paul D. Egger officiating. A burial will be held at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.  The family recommends all individuals attending the funeral service to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines.

LaVonne Eileen Harden was born October 20th, 1925 to George and Alice (Goettsch) Harden. She graduated with the class of 1944 from Aurelia High School. After high school, she worked at Strickler’s Variety Store in Storm Lake, IA.

On December 22nd, 1945, she was united in marriage to Harold Hoops in Ida Grove, Iowa. To this union, four daughters were born.   

LaVonne enjoyed fishing, crocheting, gardening, needlework, playing cards, cooking and baking, bird watching, and visiting with friends and family. She helped Harold by taking calls and scheduling trucking loads with his business, Hoops Trucking. Her family always looked forward to Christmas, as she would make many different kinds of Christmas cookies and goodies. She loved to crochet blankets, pillows, and holiday decorations. LaVonne cared deeply for her daughters and would call daily to check in with her family, and make sure everyone was ok.
She will be remembered as a faithful Christian, a loving wife, and a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt.

Those left to cherish her memory, her daughters, Eileen (Rex) Foreman of Alton, IA, Jo (Mark) Waterbury of Burbank, SD, and Teresa (John) Wendel of Schaller, IA; her grandchildren, Josh Foreman of Le Mars, IA, Jonathon Foreman (Ashley Pett) of Waynesboro, PA, Jaclyn (Justin) Navrkal of Hinton, IA, Jeff (Denise) Fuhrman of Jordan, MN, Jason Fuhrman of Chaska, MN, Nicole (Lathe) Toft of Omaha, NE, Tyler (Katie) Wendel of Sioux City, IA and Shelley (Michael) Wojcik of Sioux City, IA; great grandchildren, Jaxson and Maximus Foreman of Le Mars, IA, Hudson Foreman of Omaha, NE, Aurora and Remi Foreman of Waynesboro, PA, Keaton, Kassandra, and Kalvin Navrkal of Hinton, IA, Alexis and Carter Fuhrman of Jordan, MN, Carson Wendel and Kaleigh Toft of Omaha, NE, and Jordy Wendel of Sioux City, IA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gloria Leonard of Holstein, IA, Don Hoops of Galva, IA, Raymond (Madonna) Hoops of Hawarden, IA, and Gilbert Peterson of AZ; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

LaVonne is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; daughter, Jeane Anne; granddaughter Jodi Foreman; sisters, Berniece (Wallace) Koopman, Thelma (Roy) McGee, Norma Peterson, and Gloria (Alfred) Felten; brother Virgil (Dorothy) Harden; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin (Lillian) Hoops, Remon (Golda) Bithell, Bill Leonard, and Joelle Hoops.
