Obituary

Roscoe E. Graybill, age 79, of Holstein, formerly of Galva, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Galva with the Rev. Paul D. Egger officiating.  Burial will be at a later date.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM with the family present from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.  Memorials can be directed to the family and will be distributed to the Good Samaritan Society and CRMC Hospice.

Roscoe E. Graybill was born July 25, 1943 in Galva, Iowa to Kenneth and Vivian (Brown) Graybill.  He graduated from Galva High School in 1961.  After high school he joined the U.S. Army and was a Staff Sargent in the Vietnam War.  

Roscoe was united in marriage to Janet Eileen Knack on September 23, 1967 in Newell, Iowa.  They made their home in the Galva where they raised their two children, Monica and Clint.  In their later years Roscoe and Janet moved to Holstein.

He worked as a feed and seed salesman for the vast majority of his career.  He was a member of the Galva Fire Department and served on the Galva City Council.  He belonged to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva. Roscoe was a member of the American Legion Dibbern Post #454 and was active in Pheasants Forever.  He was a past board member and president of the Holstein Country Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and woodworking.  Roscoe loved his family and friends more than anything else in this world.

Roscoe is survived by his wife Janet; daughter, Monica (Aaron) Nedved of Holstein, IA; son, Clint (Gina) Graybill of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Leo, Brynn, Jacy and Gavin.  He is also survived by his siblings, Kenneth (Blanche) Graybill, Jr. of Maine, Melly (Thomas) McTernan of Illinois, Ruth Buell of Minnesota, and Kathy Wulf of Holstein, IA; and the families of Dolores Trimble, Darlene Huth, Lowella Ludlow, and Roland Graybill, Sr.; and a large group of nieces and nephews throughout the country.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Laura and Elvin Knack; sisters, Dolores Trimble, Darlene Huth and Lowella Ludlow; brother, Roland Sr.; brothers-in-law, Gordon Trimble, Dennis Buell, Wilford Wulf, Carl Huth and Larry Ludlow and sister-in-law, Marilyn Graybill.
