Shirley Thompson Obituary

Shirley A. Thompson, age 70, of Cherokee, passed away on Wednesday, July 07, 2021 at her home of Cherokee.  Funeral services will be held at a later date.  A private family burial will be held at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein.

Shirley A. Thompson was born January 26, 1951 in Cherokee, Iowa to Betty L. (Bauer) Hicks and William R. Lindquist.  She was a graduate of Willow High School in Quimby in 1969.

Shirley was united in marriage to Fred O. Thompson in May of 1970.  Two daughters, Dixie Lynn and Ann Cherié were born to this union.  The couple divorced in 1974.  Shirley then found her life partner, Roger J. Todd.  They enjoyed traveling to many places in the nearly 28 years that they spent together.

Shirley worked for many years as a CNA in the area, and then retired in 1992 from Cherokee Mental Health after 13 years as a Certified Medical Aide and a resident treatment worker.  In her free time she sold Avon in the Cherokee area for many years.  She was a volunteer for the Big Sister Program and often did baking for the Girl Scouts.  Shirley enjoyed playing cards with the Todd family, spending time with her daughter and her family, playing the piano and keyboard and was a big Stevie Nicks fan.  She loved her cats, spending time outdoors, baking for others and going to BINGO.  Shirley also enjoyed sewing, knitting, biking and fishing.  Shirley loved the Wizard of Oz and was a collector of the memorabilia.  She was quick to lend a helping hand and always had a smile on her face.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Dixie (Ray) Jewell of FL; life partner, Roger J. Todd of Cherokee; four grandsons, Chris, Nick, Austin and Zack; sister, Patti (John) Montgomery; brothers, Robert and Josh Lindquist; nieces, Cally Lindquist and Boni DeWall; nephew, Bill (Tasie) Lindquist; and great-nephew, Kage Carver.  She is also survived by the Todd family: Elvera Todd, Sharon (Rich) Edwards, Pauline Schoer, Sue Stieneke, Sheila (Todd) Anderson, Steve (Greta) Todd; nieces and nephews, Tanya Stieneke, Michael Stieneke, Jenny Schoer, Kyle Stieneke, Kenny Schoer, Samantha Mortenson, Chris Todd, Katrina Todd and Teresa Todd; many additional great-nieces and nephews; and Monét (Chris) Reed, who was like another daughter and was very special to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Ann Cherié Thompson; and grandfather, William Bauer.
