Wayne Theodore Korner

Wayne T. Korner was born February 11th, 1935, son of Ben and Dorothy (Miller) Korner in Schleswig, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the Grant Lutheran Church.  Wayne attended country school in rural Ida County and following school, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in the Marshall Islands, Hawaii, and Japan, to name a few.  

On March 9, 1958, Wayne was united in marriage to Donna Gries at the Holstein Methodist Church and to this union two sons were born, Steve and Scott. Wayne and Donna farmed near Schleswig from 1958-1998, moving to Ida Grove in 1990. 

Wayne was an avid, hard-working man who spent his life working on the farm, even after retiring.  Wayne loved his grandchildren and many Friday nights were spent going home with grandpa for a slumber party at their house.  Later on, Wayne was known by his great-grandchildren as the "cowboy" grandpa, always sporting a cowboy hat and boots. Wayne had a love for pickups, tractors, Western movies and his granddaughter's banana bread. Researching and buying a new pickup was a favorite hobby and he was always ready for a ice cold beer.   
Wayne loved his family fiercely and let you know it by the powerful side hug he would give.   

Wayne passed away on July 11, 2022 at Willowdale Wellness Village at the age of 87 years, 5 months. Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Steve Korner and Scott (Kelly) Korner; grandchildren Mandi (Aric) Aronson, Danielle (Steve) Watts, Deidra (Nick) Brown, Dana (Matt) Kolln, and Ryan Henningsen and special friend, Shelby Doyel; great-grandchildren Collin, Kelsie, Braden, and Macie Aronson, Gavin, Cohen, and Hudson Watts, and Cameron, Hailey, and Whitley Brown. He is also survived by his brother, Lodean (Lois) Korner; brother-in-law DeWitt (Colleen) Gries and sister-in-law, Doreen (David) Umphreys.  

Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife Donna Korner in 2020; his parents; infant sister and sister-in-law, Delories (John) Scherner.
